Kind words from clients

I have been working with Helen to slow down, prioritise, and give myself permission to look after my own wellbeing

“Looking back over the past year of ACP coaching days, I realised I had been slowly approaching burnout. Recognising this early, I have been working with Helen to slow down, prioritise, and give myself permission to look after my own wellbeing - which has been invaluable and has also improved my overall performance at work.

As someone who is hugely into fitness and sport, I found that the performance-based analogies used in sports made everything click. During a particularly high-stress period of my master’s program, I was overwhelmed and exhausted from overworking. The idea of the brain as a muscle that sometimes needs a “deload week” gave me permission to rest without guilt and reminded me of the importance of balance and of life outside work.”

Helen's coaching approach was direct and challenging, but it helped me see my strengths as well as areas for improvement

“I approached coaching at a particularly difficult time when I felt overwhelmed at work and was considering leaving my role, and I was lacking confidence, which was holding me back. Helen's coaching approach was direct and challenging, but it helped me see my strengths as well as areas for improvement and gave me more confidence to approach problems. I no longer wish to leave my role, and I have received feedback from my team that I have grown in it, which I feel is a result of Helen’s support. Helen also never made me feel rushed and was very generous with her time.”

Senior Leader

“The coaching not only strengthened my confidence in clinical practice and leadership but also supported my academic development by helping me reflect critically and apply these insights throughout my MSc ACP journey. I now feel more present, purposeful, and aligned with the practitioner and leader I want to become."

“Helen understands that to get the best out of a person, it is fundamental to understand their core goals and to make sure the work that they are doing aligns with these. She understands that not all diamonds are created under pressure; some need time to grow. By allowing people to identify their strengths and weaknesses, they can create an environment in which they flourish”.

a skilled conductor, bringing together different personalities, experiences and interpretations

“Through the delivery of imaginative and evocative coaching sessions, I feel that Helen has been a skilled conductor, bringing together different personalities, experiences and interpretations, resulting in a collaborative and supportive reflective exercise.  A particularly helpful exercise for me was the drawing of a boat. At the time, I could not fully understand the meaning of the exercise; however, I found myself reflecting on the picture, which ultimately led to a revelation about myself and my journey that gave me renewed determination”.

I am demonstrating advocacy for the staff I work with

“As a Senior Sister and in charge of an Emergency Department, I found that each day I went to work feeling like an imposter in my uniform and as though I was not able to do the role to the best of my ability. I was avoiding any situations that might lead to conflict and was going about my day in a very passive way, which I knew was not best practice for the patients and the staff I was supposed to be leading.

The difference in my practice now is that I will have the conversations that need to be had for the safety and care of patients, and I am demonstrating advocacy for the staff I work with, which will, in turn, enable them to give the best care they can. I now ask more open-ended questions to staff and empower them to think for themselves, which I feel has strengthened their practice and helped them in future situations. Also, during appraisals, I will be able to ask open-ended questions to ensure I am guiding staff, not giving answers.”
